Soul-care happens in the presence of God. This is something we choose, and choose again, until, one day, it chooses us.
It becomes our habit, our practice. Dwelling in God's presence becomes our daily reality. We are no longer people who can't find time to pray, we are people who cannot find time not to pray. Our life is in Christ, experientially, rather than theoretically.
Dallas Willard writes:
"The first and most basic thing we can and must do is
to keep God before our minds. David knew this secret and wrote, “I keep the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure” (Psalm 16:8–9).
This is the fundamental secret of caring for our souls. Our part in thus practicing the presence of God is to direct and redirect our minds constantly to Him."
