In last night's Vice-Presidential debate Tim Kaine presented himself as someone who is personally against abortion but supports a woman's right to have an abortion. (See "Tim Kaine and Mike Pence Clash Sharply Over Their Running Mates")
The Roman Catholic position is against abortion, and Kaine says he is a Roman Catholic. But in an anti-Catholic defense of abortion Kaine said, "The very last thing a government should do is punish women who make reproductive choices."
Pence responded, "The very idea that a child that is almost born into the world could still have their life taken from them is anathema to me."
Me too.
Why might someone be "personally against" abortion? It could that abortion is killing a person. If so, then how could someone who is personally against abortion support a women's right to kill a person? This is like saying, "I am personally opposed to slavery, but I support a person's right to have slaves." [Thank you N.G.]
Kaine uses the term "reproductive choices," which is just a euphemism for "killing a person."
Those of us who believe that's what abortion does would be immorally crazy to support it. Last night Pence argued that Kaine, "a Catholic who personally opposes abortion, had bent his own views to support Mrs. Clinton's positions on abortion." (Ib.) Now both Kaine and Clinton support a woman's right to kill their inborn baby.
