Eugene Peterson is a biblical scholar, a prophet, and a pastor. Linda and I are reading through his books together. Peterson aligns us to true north. He cuts through the misguided, trivial business church, and the watered-down culture-friendly church, to reveal the powerful, influential Jesus community that is a-cultural at its core.
Thank God that Peterson broke free from all church growth, seeker-sensitive models to seek instead the presence of God and lead his people there! He writes:
"God and passion. That is why I was a pastor, that is why I had come to this place: to live in the presence of God, to live with passion — and to gather others into the presence of God, introducing them into the possibilities of a passionate life." (Peterson, Under the Unpredictable Plant: An Exploration in Vocational Holiness, p. 45)
