I was excited this morning to teach my RMS Apologetics course.
The main text I'm using in William Lane Craig's excellent On Guard.
Apologetics, from the Greek verb apologeo in 1 Peter 3:15, is about giving reasons or giving a defense for the hope we have within us. And, we are to do this with gentleness and respect.
What is it that a Christian theist like myself is defending? First, I am defending the existence of God; viz., of the God of theism. God, on theism, is a personal agent who is all-powerful (can do everything that is logically possible to do), all-knowing (knows all that can be known; this includes God's counterfactual knowledge, i.e., God's knowledge of the truth value of future conditional statements), all-loving, necessarily existent (i.e., without beginning or end, "everlasting"), non-physical (God is a Spirit), and cause of all that exists.
I explained these terms this morning, using Bill Craig's books for kids. I had my students read one of Bill's children's book, and tell me what it says.
