Spring Semester

Creativity in Worship

Have you ever noticed how many different methods of worship are found in the Bible?  Singing, clapping, dancing, building, shouting, kneeling, playing instruments, giving… the list goes on!  We are the Body of Christ, and God has fashioned each one of us to give Him a facet of praise that is unique from the person next to us. Creativity and Worship will explore how to find the creativity inside of you and to use that to honor God.

Time: Tuesdays, 9:30am - 1:00pm
Instructor: Holly Benner and Gary Wilson

Spiritual Warfare

This course will examine, in depth, Ephesians 6:12, which reads: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We will study the nature and reality of spiritual warfare, and how to engage the enemy.

Time: Wednesdays, 9:30am - 1:00pm
Instructor: Dr. John Piippo

Apologetics

The word “apologetics” means: to defend one’s faith. In this course students will especially learn to defend: 1) the existence of God; 2) the existence of and person of Jesus Christ, with emphasis on the historical resurrection; 3) the belief that God is all-loving and all-powerful even though there is evil and suffering in the world; and 4) that the Bible is the Word of God and not simply another book.

Time: Thursdays, 9:30am - 1:00pm
Instructor: Dr. John Piippo

Leadership

This course will introduce students to servant leadership principles. Our basic assumption will be: leaders for Christ are themselves led by Christ. Students will not only study leadership principles but will engage in the practice of authentic servant leadership.

Time: Fridays, 9:30am - 1:00pm
Instructor: Jim Hunter and Denise Hunter

Hearing God: Guideline One - Love God with All Your Being

Lake Erie shoreline

Our primary goal in life is not to hear God speak to us, but to be in a loving relationship with him and our brothers and sisters in the kingdom of heaven. Only if we are maturing people in a loving relationship with God will we hear him correctly. How weird it would be to want to hear God speak to me while not wanting to be in relationship with him. That would be using God for our own selves. Which would be futility, since God will not be used by anyone.

Dallas Willard writes:

"Only our communion with God provides the appropriate context for communications between us and him. And within those communications, guidance will be given in a manner suitable to our particular lives and circumstances. It will fit into our life together with God in his earthly and heavenly family. Again, this is our first preliminary insight to help us in our learning to discern God’s voice." (Willard, Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God, p. 42)

The 30 Best Places to Be if You Love Books

Thank you Dan for showing me this!

The 30 Best Places To Be If You Love Books

Mark Twain said ““In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them.” Mark Twain would have lost his mind if he saw these places.
